Hello, my name is Lise Bouchard and here is the whirlwind that shook my life when I turned 50!
I was rushed to the Chicoutimi Hospital on June 18, 2021. The internist, nephrologist, rheumatologist, and cardiologist were all baffled by what was happening to me. I had a pulmonary embolism, underwent biopsies, received several blood transfusions, and was given chemotherapy before finally being diagnosed with lupus. It was very severe as it attacked my heart, lungs, and kidneys simultaneously.
I was then transferred to the CHU de Québec for 8 weeks. The medication was so strong that I experienced delirium. My husband and son were always by my side throughout this long period despite the hours of travel that separated us.
Later, in 2022, I contracted a rare bacteria which led to my amputation in 2023. Since the beginning of 2024, I have started my physical rehabilitation to receive a prosthesis.
Today, I have started walking again and my lupus is under control. I am grateful to my precious husband Jean-François, my family, and my friends.
What can I say about my son Elliot Saucier, whom I adore and admire? He even raised $3,000 last year for lupus research.
This is my journey!
